It's been a while (three years!) since we last launched a Reserve wine. annd 2020 brings you not one but TWO Reserves! However the 2018 Petite Sirah Reserve features a meer 25 cases. Just one barrel and aged for 30 months, this wine is sure to please. Aromas of sandalwood and sage greet you off the bat, with multiple layers of dark chocolate, white pepper and earthiness...almost like a potpourri of delicious aromas! The lengthy finish says it's ready to drink today, but for those willing to be a bit patient it will continue to evolve wonderfully.
Aged for 30 months in 100% new oak, the 2018 Zinfandel Reserve is exactly what you want from a Paso Robles Zinfandel and is ready to drink today! Black pepper jumps out of the glass, with just the right amount of spiced plum jam off the bat. Milk Chocolate and blackberry mix well with a hint of mint and nutmeg to flesh out the palate of this Zinfandel. The tannins are full, balanced, and rich. You will not stop with one glass of this Zinfandel!
40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 20% Zinfandel, 10% Petite Sirah.
Each year the Lajur is the best of the best, with only the best barrel of Cabernet, Syrah, Zinfandel and Petite Sirah making it to the finish line! This year's vintage expresses the beauty of our favorite wine of 2019, Cabernet Sauvignon, but also pulling in a hint of earthiness from the Syrah. The Zinfandel brings the pepper to the party, followed by the black fruit of the Petite Sirah. This wonderful combination also showcases the variety of oak barrels found at Gelfand Vineyards (American, Hungarian, French/American) with white chocolate, boysenberry, cedar and Madagascar Vanillin that's more meaty than sweet. Ready to drink today but will do wonders to let it age a bit.
True to form, the Gelfand Vineyards Malbec has a deep, rich color to complement the aromas of fresh pomegranate, gravel, and just a hint of earthiness on the nose. Polished tannins balance the flavors of baked black fruits, and hints of rose petals in the mouth of this lush Malbec.
25% each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel.
This year's Menage is a perfect blend of the best notes of each as well. While a little time in bottle will magnify the beauty of this wine, it is also ready to fill your glass today. The nose is full of pomegranate, black cherry and spice. This wine has great structure coating your palate evenly from front to back highlighting the rich and smooth tannins. It is full bodied and silk with clove, plum and tobacco. Great for anytime of the day...we mean ANY time of the day!
Always a club favorite the 2019 Petite Cab is slightly Petite Sirah (60%) dominant but is nicely balanced with our 2019 stunner, Cabernet Sauvignon (40%). In the glass it is super dark and inky in color. Black currant and tobacco from the Cabernet lead the way, followed by hints of cedar and mint. The Petite Sirah complements the Cabernet with a bright blend of boysenberry and blackberry jam. Together this wine is polished with chewy tannins and the strong, full finish of earth, dark fruit, and spice. This is ready to drink today but will continue to evolve beautifully.
The 2019 Petite Sirah is drinkable today but holy cow will this one be amazing if you give it a few months to age. The dark, rich, fruit aromas blended with the smokey meat characteristics make this one memorable and will be a classic as it ages. Your glass will kick off with a hint of freshly rained upon stone, followed with full tannins and an espresso-like finish (hold off on the urge to have a glass with your morning coffee...or don't, no judgement here!). We are looking forward to revisiting this one later this spring.
Our Syrah is a hidden gem...The earthiness found in Syrah gives a real feel for our terroir. Off the bat the garnet color gives way to a floral violet nose. That first taste pulls in the earthy forest floor true to Syrah followed by cranberry and then finishing with blueberry. The 2019 Syrah has a wonderfully bright acidity to complement the earthiness and is ready to age a bit to allow the tannins to express themselves.
